Re: The European Union
H&P

First, the IN campaign has made a big noise about how '3 million jobs are at risk' if we leave the EU.

Nick Clegg talked about exactly that in one of the election debates as I recall.

And that assumes that all trade between the EU and the UK ceases after Brexit. I'm glad to hear that you don't subscribe to that nonsense.

But in fact there will be no disruption to trade - precisely none - for the simple reason that the UK is the largest single export market for continental Europe.

As you may have noticed the EU is in economic crisis, with youth unemployment of over 50% in Spain, Italy and Greece and rocketing unemployment even in France.

The idea that they would put their exports to the UK in jeopardy even for one day is laughable. They would be scrambling to include us in EFTA (the same deal Switzerland has) before the ink was even dry on our Article 30 resignation as an EU member.

Unshackled from the EU we would then be free to negotiate our own free trade deals with places like China, the US and Brazil. We can't do this today because only Brussels can negotiate trade deals, and they do so with a brief to protect the special interests of the EU member states, especially France and Germany, which is why the deals are so limited and complex.

France, for instance, has asked for the entire cinematic industry to be removed from the TTIP agreement with the US because they say it would destroy the french film industry if Hollywood were given free unlimited access to EU markets. It's one example of many of the sort of madness the EU is involved in.

So far from making it harder to reduce the deficit it is just as likely that Brexit will make it easier, because of the boost to our exports to non-EU countries, whose markets will be opened up to us - without any loss whatsoever to our EU free access.

I think the EU needs us more than we need it.
We are one of the greatest countries on this planet, we have resources and a population to be self sufficient. We should be allowed to make our own rules, accept who we want into the country and in my opinion people would be more accepting of immigration if it wasn't on such the mass scale we have seen in the last 15 years due to labour open door policy and recent government failures to close that door. There's no doubt we are a tolerant nation, it worked with Asians, Indians etc coming over who are now accepted as a vital part of society but a mass influx of people from every nation within the EU looking for work we cannot provide simply creates a huge mess and people are fed up.

Trade will have to be negotiated. So what? It has always been the case.

Hammer and Pickle 8:44 Sun Nov 15
Re: The European Union
Trade will not cease - of course it won't.

But the terms of trade will have to be renegotiated, and the needful party won't be the EU.

Are you also into trade default swaps Infidel?

Re: The European Union
comma

Interesting logic.

We immediately save around €20bn in EU contributions, which I think is not in dispute.

Therefore you believe government tax receipts will fall by more than €20bn.

Ah yes! I forgot. The day after we leave the EU all trade between Britain and the EU will cease, because the EU will want to show us how much they disprove of our OUT vote by refusing to sell us German cars, French wine, Greek olive oil and Italian suits. That will show us.

By leaving the EU we risk not reducing our deficit actually.

What a crass assertion. You really are running out of things to say. The truth is there are no proven advantages to staying in whilst there are many credible reasons for leaving.

By leaving the EU we can reduce our deficit why has Cameron dug his heels in then? Seems like he wants to make poor people poorer then as they are the ones who pick up the tab while his Millionaire friends recieve tax cuts.

Those things are for us, the majority electorate to decide, if you're referring to true representative democracy.

Remember the politicians are meant to be the servants of the majority not the other way round.

You see I don't believe that our PM, or indeed our Parliament, is neutered by us being EU members. especially as we have charge of our own currency.

For a start comma he can decide how many people come to our country and where from.

He can decide what to spend the billions we send to the EU each year on.

And more importantly he can be judged on his actions. He will be become accountable to the British people completely and not to is and the European Union.

Surely as someone who believes in democratic socialism you would welcome the UK government being wholly responsible to the people? Kate Hoey does.
